“Rainbows End” Commemorative Mural remembering the Life of Diann Mendez Windmeyer Hall

Digital collage

2020

Loaned by Shane Windmeyer

Designer, artist, and muralist Gil Croy was commissioned to create this original art inspired by Dianns life and the eulogy delivered at her funeral which was limited in attendance due to COVID-19 safety protocols. The family celebrated Diann’s life on her birthday Friday, October 29 and on Saturday, October 30 in her hometown of Hiawatha, KS. The Iowa Tribe and its members provided food for the memorial luncheon where the commemorative mural art was presented to her sisters and brothers.

Diann Mendez Windmeyer Hall, 68, of Topeka, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS after fighting a month-long battle with COVID-19.  She was quarantined for nearly 30 days in her hospital bed and put on a ventilator. This was a month before there was a vaccine or any scientifically proven treatments for those already infected by the virus. Her son Shane Windmeyer and daughter Jennifer Windmeyer were by her side when she passed three days before Christmas.

Diann and her two children are proud members of the Iowa Tribe.  For over a decade in the 80s, Diann worked professionally for the Iowa Tribe as a bookkeeper and grant writer.  She appreciated the opportunity to serve in this role and contribute to the growth and support of the Tribe and its members.
